Hans-Peter Keitel - Awardee of the LutherRose 2009

Curriculum vitae

After studying civil engineering as well as labour and economic sciences, Keitel took on leading engineering consultancy tasks in Germany and abroad for Lahmeyer International, Frankfurt/Main. After twelve years with the company, he moved to HOCHTIEF AG in Essen in 1988, where he was initially responsible for international activities. In 1990, he was appointed to the company's Executive Board, becoming its Chairman and a member of the Executive Board of RWE AG in 1992. After more than 15 years at the helm of Germany's largest construction company, he moved to the Supervisory Board in 2007. From 2005 to 2008, Keitel was President of the Federation of the German Construction Industry and BDI Vice President. He has been BDI President since 2009. He is a member of several supervisory boards and boards of directors and fulfils a number of honorary roles, including honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin and President of the Board of Trustees of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.

Voluntary commitment

He has proven to be a committed member of his Protestant congregation in Essen. His commitment is not only idealistic, but also manifests itself in a wide range of activities. For example, he is a founding board member of the support group of the Protestant church in Heierbusch and a member of the "Church and Economy" working group

His private and professional life is based on a foundation of Christian values and fills the Lutheran professional ethos with life without making a big fuss about it.
