7th Business Conference: The Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism

On 17th November 2014, the 7th Economic Conference of the International Martin Luther Foundation took place in Zurich in cooperation with the German Savings Banks and Giro Association (Berlin), with the support of the Protestant Reformed Church, the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich/CH and KPMG Switzerland.

With a special tribute to the 150th birthday of the Erfurt-born sociologist Max Weber (1864-1920) and with a Protestant-critical view of his prominent work "Protestant Ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism" (1904/05), the participants of the 7th IMLS Economic Conference discussed the topic "The Spirit and Unspirit of Capitalism: Present Analysis and Consequences" in Huldrych Zwingli's (1484-1531) former residence and office building, the "Helferei".

The panellists from business, politics and culture included Tim Guldimann, Switzerland's ambassador to Germany, Margot Käßmann, ambassador of the Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD) for the 2017 Reformation anniversary, Roland Gröbli, President of the Association of Christian Entrepreneurs, Zurich Regional Group, Antoinette Hunziker-Ebneter, CEO and founding partner of Forma Futura Invest AG, Zurich, and Georg Pfleiderer, Professor of Protestant Systematic Theology in Basel.

Following the business conference, the LutherRose 2014 for social responsibility and entrepreneurial courage was awarded to Swiss entrepreneur Dietrich Pestalozzi in Zurich's Grossmünster church.
